The Sports and Fitness Ministry at Oakwood exists to connect people to Jesus and one another in an environment that fosters relationships and builds community.
The Oakwood Activity Center (OAC) is a 47,000 square foot facility that features: a regulation-sized gymnasium, two full-sized racquetball courts, a walking/jogging track, cardio room, cybex machine room, aerobics room, theatre room, dining room, commercial kitchen, numerous classrooms & meeting rooms, a cafe' & commons area, children's nursery and men's and women's locker rooms.
The OAC is a ministry of Oakwood Christian Church and was built upon God's word. 1 Corinthians 6:19 says, "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God, you are not your own;" and 1 Timothy 1:9 says, “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come." If we are not our own, and truly temples of the Holy Spirit, then it is imperative to nurture our spiritual life first, and then also take care of our physical health. The two can work hand in hand to strengthen us to be the people God wants us to be, as well as the people that he uses to further His kingdom. When our bodies are strong and healthy and we are full of energy and vitality, we are able to bless others and serve them to the fullest. So many times, when we neglect our health, we rely on others to meet our needs and are not able to function at our very best capacity. Very simply, when we are unhealthy physically it effects our spiritual life as well. We are committed to helping you realize your full potential through the power of the Holy Spirit and living a disciplined lifestyle.
